Where was I when...

I was thinking about a few days that stand out. It is the anniversary of my cute dads death- I miss him sooo much. Look for a blog on him soon. SO-- where were you on the days that stand out?

The Challenger Exploded:

On January 28, 1986 America was shocked by the destruction of the space shuttle Challenger, and the death of its seven crew members. I was in my classroom at school in the 6th grade. We were watching it on T.V. I was so sad for the pretty school teacher Christa McAuliffe and her family and children. It was so quite not a sound I don’t think anyone knew what to say. The teachers were very upset not sure how to talk to us. I was riveted to the T.V. It made me not want to go to space or even fly. I used to watch the movie space camp and then go out side and check the stars out. I loved sleeping outside on the trampoline or with my cousins under the stars. I wanted to go to space. Then I lost all desire. But I still think of NASA as full of heros.

Operation Desert Storm 1991:
A U.N. ultimatum, stipulated that if Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein did not remove his troops from Kuwait by January 15, 1991 a U.S.-led coalition was authorized to drive them out. Early in the morning of January 17, Baghdad time, the U.S.-led coalition launched air attacks against Iraqi targets. On February 24, coalition ground forces begin their attack. I was living with the Catron family, I remember they were going to a Paul Simon concert; he began the concert with a moment of silence. I don’t think I understood war even as a high school student. It was the first war that was televised. I wish it had been the last war I remember in my life.

September 11, 2001
I was on my way to work for Sky West Airlines. I worked in downtown Salt Lake City, Scott was giving me a ride to work. The cell phone rang. It was Aunt Sue. She said a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I told her it was nothing a small accident. She said no it was a commercial jet. Then my pager went off. It was a living nightmare. I called Anthony who was flying that day. I thought of Uncle Al in New York. I scanned the skies expecting to see planes headed for our skyscraper in the Salt Lake skyline. I watched the horror unravel on the T.V. I attend a special prayer service at the Tabernacle by President Hinckley. I heard when the President ordered all planes shot down from the air if they did not respond in 10 minutes. The skies were clear for many days. America turned to God, but how soon we forget. Many heroes stand out in my mind. The firefighters, the wives left behind—some pregnant.

Dec. 1994 Meeting my Prince Phillip

I LOVE Scott and I first laid eyes on him in Dec. 1994. I was working at Bank One on State Street. I thought he was handsome, and a Mormon. I didn’t think I had a chance. When we got married everyone teased us we should do it at Bank One with blue and white as our colors. I can't believe it is 12 years later... here is to 100 more.
