Most people don't understand why we have never done the tourist stops while in Oahu. Usually we are in meetings and then I could never rally anyone to go with me and tour Oahu. I think we got the idea that all there was to Oahu was tons of people and buildings and no great treasures. I could not have been more wrong. I am wrong often but I was way off the mark with this idea that "there is nothing neat in Oahu". Here is one of the days we spent at the Polynesian Cultural Center or the PCC. I was happy on the way there to recognize a few of the drive Thomas and Higgins
took back in the 80s. The PCC is a cool way for student to earn a college education. They have natives attending the University there BYU Hawaii and working to pay for tuition. This also helps keep the culture alive and traditions and stories fresh for new generations. I learned how different each island is. Tonga and Tahiti may both be islands but life on each island is very unique. Scott kept wanting to go watch the hip shakers they can really shake it baby. We learned about the music, social life, food, fire, dances, and even legends of all the isles. It was blazing hot. I
almost passed out. It was like a furnace which was the only draw back
I kept wanting to jump into the water. They frown on you jumping into the water. Mano and I sought shade all the day long while Taylor, Scott and Miranda acted like they live to bake. Cute Taylor is their niece living with them for the school year. It is always interesting to see the world from a teenagers point of view. She is beautiful and sweet. I wonder if I was ever a teen it seems so long ago. We did the Luau which we were forced to do. Scott ate and ate and ate. He would love to eat raw fish and roast pig everyday. I on the other hand do not like luaus. I have been to 5 and I only like the company. But when in Rome... Scott dreams of eating there again. Guess who was here too? An Olympic gold medalist! She was sweet to pose with us for photos and let me hold the medal. She had some major tattoo's and body pericing that looked painful but she sure was kind and friendly. The night show had spectacular fire and dancing. Cutie Sami got up and danced along to the delight of on lookers. Then she fell asleep in my arms which is on the top of my favorite things in the whole world. To have a little child fall asleep and you wonder all about the dreams they have the future they will face. I just love it!
